The National Museums Scotland (NMS) is unique – a place where the cultures of Scotland and the world meet, where the arts and sciences intermingle, a space where the full spectrum of human creativity and invention, across cultural boundaries and through time, can be seen alongside the wonder and diversity of the natural world. Since the building opened in 1866, it has been promoting learning, inspiring discovery, and sharing vital educational resources. NMS is a Non-Departmental Public Body, governed by a Board of Trustees. The core funding of NMS is Grant-in-Aid received from the Scottish Government. We care for collections of national and international importance and present these to the public at four Museums:
