Wrexham Country Borough Council are looking to engage with the market in advance of procuring a new backup system. Background The current environment is located across two datacentres connected by 40Gb local fibre backbone. The large majority of servers are virtualised using VMware connected to an IBM FlashSystem. There are a total of 320 servers, details on Server Types and Operating System are below: Server Type / Server Count Virtual Servers (VMWare) – 316 Physical Servers – 4 Total – 320 Operating Systems / Server Count Windows - 294 Linux - 26 Total – 320 Currently there are 110TB of data in use, a breakdown of the data types is below: Data Type / TB File – 27 Oracle – 2 SQL – 14 VDI – 4 VM – 63 Total - 110 Connectivity to the network is possible by 25Gb fibre and to the storage fabric network by 32Gb fibre. Solution Requirements The backup solution should incorporate the 3-2-1 backup rule, a copy of backup data in each datacentre and an offsite copy in the cloud. The below table gives details around Data Size, Growth, Change Rates and Recovery Points and Retention Periods that we require: Data Size - 110TB Yearly Growth Rate - 5% Daily Change Rate - 7TB Recovery Points - Daily 31d, Weekly 7w, Monthly 12m, Yearly 1y Retention Period - 31d Local, 1yr Cloud* *Depending on cost increased retention maybe an option The possibility of a managed service would be of interest and would like to investigate this as an option. Mailbox data is currently being moved to Office 365 with further data expected to move in the future, we would like to explore the options for backing up O365. The solution must be able to capable of performing immutable backups.
