NHS Low Calorie Diet Programme

This PIN relates to market engagement in advance of a potential commissioning process to support the expansion of the NHS Low Calorie Diet Programme. The programme is currently being delivered by the NHS Diabetes Programme, a joint partnership between NHS England & Diabetes UK. To date, NHS England has procured services to be delivered in 21 Integrated Care Systems (ICSs).

Following the encouraging results of two trials assessing the impact of Total Diet Replacement (TDR) programmes, delivered as part of a behaviour change intervention programme, on weight, HbA1c & in some cases remission of type 2 diabetes, the national programme was put in place. The programme aims to provide a service for individuals who are overweight / obese and recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, with the aim of delivering significant weight loss and potentially achieving remission from their diabetes.
