Requirement
Great Western Hospital (GWH) have a requirement for weekend clinical delivery and reporting of consultant-led diagnostic procedures: Dobutamine Stress Echocardiogram (DSE), Exercise Stress Echocardiogram (ESE), Transoesophageal Echocardiogram (TOE), and Cardiac Angiogram (CA).
Background on Requirement
The current demand for these consultant-led diagnostic tests exceeds the capacity of our clinical services, both in terms of resources and facilities. Therefore, the department needs to increase capacity by utilising weekends (Saturday/Sunday) or evening sessions (6 pm-9 pm, Mon-Fri) to serve patients with long waiting times.
We urgently need to deliver five full weekend sessions for DSE/ESE procedures using two consultants to handle 26 patient procedures per day at the Wiltshire Cardiac Centre, GWH. This will address a total of 130 patients. Each session will be supported by Cardiac Physiologists and Nursing staff.
Additionally, we require the ability to organise short-notice (within 15 working days) weekend or evening clinics for DSE/ESE/TOE/Angiogram procedures as needed by the Cardiology Department at GWH.
Objectives
We aim to provide additional ad-hoc clinical capacity over the next 12-24 months to conduct long-wait clinics as part of our elective recovery program. All procedures will be consultant-led, with GWH providing the necessary physiologist and nursing support. Ideally, these procedures will take place in-house at GWH to utilise our existing facilities and specialised equipment.
Statement of Works
To achieve our objectives, we require:
- Cardiology consultants with a proven track record of performing DSE/ESE/TOE/Angiogram procedures.
- Consultants who can report results in accordance with NICE guidelines.
