Types of Drainage Assets • Catchpit • Inflow/outfall • Intercepter • Pumping station • Soakaway • Channel/flume • Pipe • Pond • Culvert • Granular drain What constitutes drainage inspection
“Drainage inspections gather visible information relating to the structure and performance of the drainage system as well as the parent assets such as earthworks, structures and track. Drainage inspections have two levels of details: a) Drainage System Defect Inspection is a basic visual inspection which is also included as part of the Condition Inspection. b) Drainage System Condition Inspection is the baseline inspection which is required for all drainage assets in order to collect condition data and should cover the drainage system (inflows to outfall). The My Work App has been created to allow inspection data to be collected consistently and to upload the information into Ellipse. This eliminates the need for paperwork and enables functionality such as Global Navigation Satellite System data recording, photographs, editing attributes and the creation of work arising to be completed quickly and within defined scripts. Whenever possible the use of the My Work App is recommended. Where more detailed information is required, the inspection should be supported by a survey (see NR/L2/CIV/005/05, Drainage Survey.” (definition in accordance with NR/L2/CIV/005, Module 4, Drainage Inspection, p.7) What constitutes drainage maintenance
Drainage maintenance, both manual and mechanised, will be undertaken in accordance NR/L2/CIV/005, Modules 11 – 15; and will be specified by the Senior Asset Engineers in the Route Engineering team.
Manual work includes: rodding of pipes, vegetation removal and recutting ditching, replacement of catchpit lids and rings, desilting and repair of culvert headwalls etc. Mechanised maintenance would be primarily jetting. Critical success factors
1) measurable condition score improvement; 2) performance improvement re. reduction of TSRs, reduction in flood events, reduction in wet beds/rough ride reports; 3) Earthwork stability 4) Achieve unit rate If you would like to take part in the market capability survey please access it using this link: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=4cMswn9dTU--A9WhWMyUCWhHaewLIQ5KvEXxQkx8u7RURExZSlZZOTBSMFZBMjRBRDJCQjNGMkxaMS4u If you have any issues accessing the survey please direct your queries to shruthimariam.george@networkrail.co.uk.
